How to check Instagram unfollowers without a login

Use your official Instagram data export to compare follower lists over time. You sign in to Instagram to request your data, but you never share your password or connect your account to this app.

Before you start

You need an Instagram export in JSON format containing Followers and following, and a browser where you can keep your snapshots.

Someone who does not follow you back may never have followed you. That is different from someone who appears in an older follower list and is missing from a newer one.

Step 1

Download your Instagram data

Request the export inside Instagram. The video shows the process on iPhone; menu names may differ on other devices.

  1. In Instagram, open Accounts Centre, then Your information and permissions and Export your information.
  2. Create an export and choose Export to device. Under Customize information, keep only Followers and following.
  3. Set Date range to All time and Format to JSON, then start the export. Complete any confirmation in Instagram.
  4. Wait until Instagram notifies you that the export is ready, then download and save the ZIP.

Before starting the export, check these three settings:

Keep the downloaded ZIP intact. You do not need to unzip it or select individual JSON files.

Step 2

Save your first snapshot

  1. Open the app and choose Import your first export. If you already have snapshots, choose Import Instagram export.
  2. Choose Select ZIP and select the file you downloaded. The app reads it on your device.
  3. Review the follower and following counts. Check the Account and Snapshot date before saving. Use the date the export represents.
  4. Choose Save snapshot. Your first snapshot becomes the baseline for later comparisons.

The selected ZIP is not uploaded. Your saved history stays in this browser. Export a backup from the app before clearing browser data or moving to another device.

Step 3

Compare a later export

When you want to check for changes, request a fresh export with the same settings. Return to the same browser and import it under the same account, with its newer snapshot date.

The app compares it with the previous snapshot. Check Lost followers for accounts present in the older follower list but absent from the newer one.

A simple example

In a fictional Monday snapshot, @sample_alex follows you. In Friday’s snapshot, that account is missing. The comparison lists @sample_alex as a lost follower between those snapshots. It cannot tell you the exact time or the reason the account disappeared.

These are changes between exported lists, not live notifications. The app does not monitor Instagram between imports or unfollow anyone for you.

If something goes wrong

The ZIP has no supported follower data

Request another export with Followers and following selected and the format set to JSON. An HTML export is not supported. Import the original ZIP without unpacking it.

I only see a baseline

You need two snapshots for the same account to see changes. Import a later export; importing the same file again does not provide new follower information.

My previous snapshots are missing

Check that you are using the same browser and browser profile. History does not sync between devices. If browser data was cleared, restore a backup you previously exported, or import your saved Instagram exports again.
